California Street Single Family
Renovations & Additions

This project started out as a single level Chicago Style bungalow with an unfinished basement with a very low ceiling height. A complete gut/rehab was done on the house and a second floor addition was designed and built. The first floor plan and basement floor plans were also completely re-designed. A new custom stair case was designed to connect the three living levels. The transformed single family house now has five bedrooms with three and one half baths.

To achieve an almost nine foot ceiling height the basement was dug out to the level of the existing footing with no need for an underpin. The basement has a wet bar, large open recreation room, a mud room, two bedrooms, a full bath, storage closets and a mud room to the rear. On the first floor there is an entry foyer with a guest closet, formal living, powder room, dining room, kitchen, family room and den. The living room has a dramatic 14 foot ceiling height feature in the front of the house that takes advantage of a window that previously provided light to the attic.

The master suite has separate his/her walk in closets, a full bath with separate shower and bathtub and a double bowl vanity. The second floor also has two bedrooms with walk in closets, large hall bath and a hall closet. The full size washer/dryer and laundry sink are located in a large laundry room.

The second floor addition is set back from the front of the house to preserve the unique characteristics of the façade.
